Ontario City Councilmember Jim Bowman Endorses Gloria Negrete McLeod for Supervisor

MONTCLAIR, CA – Ontario City Councilmember and Retired Ontario Fire Chief Jim Bowman announced his endorsement of Gloria Negrete McLeod’s campaign for County Supervisor today.  Bowman joins a growing list of local elected leaders that are supporting Negrete McLeod.

“Gloria Negrete McLeod is a no nonsense local leader that brings people together to get things done,” said Bowman.  “She understands that government should be an ally to small businesses, not a roadblock and she works as hard as anybody on the issues that matter most to San Bernardino County families.  I’m looking forward to continuing to work with her as she continues her legacy of local leadership.”

Bowman has served 6 terms on the Ontario City Council and is a former Fire Chief in the City of Ontario and the City of Upland.  He has lived in Ontario for 68 years.

A 44-year resident of San Bernardino County, Negrete McLeod has an unparalleled record of winning elections in San Bernardino County.  She won election to the Chaffey College Governing Board in 1995 and 1999, State Assembly in 2000, 2002, and 2004, and State Senate in 2006 and 2010.  In 2012, she was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives.  Negrete McLeod currently serves over 68% of the Fourth Supervisorial District in Congress.  She previously represented large portions of the district in the State Assembly and State Senate.  She served all the communities in the district on the Chaffey College Governing Board.

Throughout her two decade career in public service, Negrete McLeod has distinguished herself as an effective advocate for creating quality jobs, reforming government, strengthening neighborhood safety, and improving local schools.  She and her husband Gilbert McLeod, a retired police lieutenant, have 10 children, 25 grandchildren, and 29 great grandchildren.

Monday, May 5: Inaugural Law Enforcement Appreciation Basketball Game

SAN BERNARDINO, CA- San Bernardino City Unified School District (SBCUSD) is hosting the inaugural Law Enforcement Appreciation Basketball Game on Monday, May 5. Beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Indian Springs High School, students from all 10 District middle schools will play basketball against San Bernardino City Police and SBCUSD Police officers. Indian Springs High is located at 650 North Del Rosa Drive in San Bernardino. The District’s Youth Services Department and Creative Before- and Afterschool Programs for Success (CAPS) are hosting the event to help bring the community together and create stronger relationships between families and law enforcement. Community groups are invited to host free, interactive and informational booths at the event. For a Light Dinner Try Chicken Marsala

    This low calorie Chicken Marsala recipe is great for those watching their diets or for those who just want a light, delicious and flavorful summer dinner, using Marsala, Italy’s most famous fortified wine.  Prep Time: 11 minutes. Total Time: 19 minutes. Makes 4 servings.

Ingredients: 4 small (12 ounces total) boneless, skinless chicken breast halves; Nonstick spray coating; 1-1/2 cups  sliced fresh mushrooms; 2 tablespoons  sliced green onion; 2 tablespoons water; 1/4 teaspoon  salt; 1/4 cup dry Marsala or dry sherry.

Directions: Place 1 piece of chicken, boned side up, between 2 pieces of clear plastic wrap. Working from the center to the edges, pound lightly with a meat mallet to about 1/4-inch thickness. Remove plastic wrap. Repeat with remaining chicken breast halves.

Spray a large skillet with nonstick spray coating. Preheat skillet over medium heat. Add 2 chicken breast halves. Cook over medium heat for 2 to 3 minutes or until tender and no pink remains. Transfer to a platter; keep warm. Repeat with remaining chicken breast halves.

Carefully add mushrooms, green onion, water, and salt to skillet. Cook over medium heat until mushrooms are tender and most of the liquid has evaporated (about 3 minutes). Add Marsala or dry sherry to skillet. Heat through. Spoon vegetables and sauce over chicken. Makes 4 servings. Calories 161, Total Fat 3 g, Cholesterol 72 mg, Sodium 191 mg, Carbohydrate 2 g, Protein 27 g. (Per serving)

Thursday – May 23 Small Business 8(A) Certification Training Become Eligible For More Contract Awards

SANTA ANA, CA— Become Eligible for More Contract Awards with 8(a) Certification. The Small Business Administration’s Santa Ana District Office will provide 8(a) Business Development Program Application Workshops. The SBA’s 8(a) business development program, named for a section of the Small Business Act, is a business development program created to help small disadvantaged businesses compete in the American economy and access the federal procurement market. The May 23 Workshop will be held from 8 a.m. to 12 noon in the SBA Training Room. Applicant firms must be: A small business; Unconditionally owned and controlled by one or more socially and economically disadvantaged individuals who are of good character and citizens of the United States; and Demonstrate potential for success. Remaining workshop dates in 2013 for Orange County are June 27th, July 25th, August 22nd, and October 24th. All of these workshops will be located in the Training Room of the SBA office, located at 200 W. Santa Ana Boulevard, Suite 700, Santa Ana, CA. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. with the sessions starting at 8:30 a.m. promptly and lasting until noon. Registration is required. t 2 p.m. that mixes an urban fashion show with hip hop/R&B, art and live performances by local talented youth and adults.
