By Lue Dowdy,

SAN BERNARDINO, CA— It’s ya girl LUE with my Artist Review and Entertainment Happenings in the IE and surrounding cities.
Attention! Attention! Erykah Badu “Showed Up & Showed Out”
Ladies and Gentlemen, last Thursday, I witnessed if not the best, definitely one of the best concerts of 2013 thus far. The house was packed!  If I’m not mistaken the concert was sold out or close to it.
Erykah Badu, Lyfe Jennings, and Bobby Valintino aka Bobby V, gave a magnificent performance. Each one of them not only sung, but played an instrument as well showcasing their other talents.
Bobby V, opened the show performing a few of his hits like, “Slow Down” and “Tell Me”. He had the ladies up in arms, the moment he took off his shirt showing all his oily muscles. Let’s just say it was getting pretty HOT!
Lyfe Jennings, a favorite of mine came out and smashed it. He performed his hits, “Stick up Kid; “It must Be Nice”; “S.E.X.”, and a few more. The last song Lyfe sung moved the crowd. He told his story of his incarceration and how GOD spoke to him in his darkest hour. I was really touched how he wasn’t afraid to praise the Lord.

Bobby V played piano and sang several of his lady-pleasing hits as he opened for Erykah Badu at the May 30 concert at San Manuel. (Photo by Freddie Washington ©2013)

So my girl, Erykah Badu, brought the house down! Her performance was an A plus. Two thumbs up for the Queen of Neo Soul. When I say everyone was on their feet, I mean everyone – including the full media row including Reps from the Sun, Press Enterprise, and a few other local papers and of course the Westside Story.
Erykah serenaded the audience with all her classics like, “On and On”; “Next Lifetime”; “Tyrone”; “Apple Tree”; The Other Side of The Game”; “Back In The Day”, and others.  I had folks jumping in front of me and steppin’ on my baby toe, trying to get a better view of the queen. This lady’s talent is extraordinary! I see why Common and Andrea 2000 was so gone over her.
Erykah’s, aura is indescribable. She sang, rapped, b-boxed, scatted, and played the drums. Once she completed her set the audience couldn’t get enough of her. They began to chant her name. The queen responded by coming back on stage, ending with my all-time favorite, “Bag Lady”.
The audience showed mad love to each artist by reciting their songs word for word and illuminating the auditorium with lights reflecting from their phones and lighters.  What a show!

Deeveatva Foy

Deeveatva Foy

By Lue Dowdy, SAN BERNARDINO, CA– Hi everybody! This week’s select artist is none other than the beautiful and talent, Deeveatva Foy. I was so impressed the first time I saw this talented artist. Watching Deeveatva move her body made me wanna exercise. Okay I’m lying! But it did make me appreciate the art of belly dancing.

Deeveatva is a versatile and innovative professional dancer! She has performed at a number if venues throughout the Inland Empire and Southern California. She is playful, expressive, and strives to connect with every audience; and her various artistic styles continue to evolve as she learns

more about different dance forms. Looking for a fun way to exercise and stay in shape after having two children, Deeveatva took her first beginning belly dance class in 2000. Deeveatva was instantly hooked. She was inspired to learn about the different styles of belly dance and was able to unleash her inner Goddess…Zada!

Deeveatva currently dances as a soloist and with two belly dance groups Nubian Hips (of which she is the co-founder) and Al Nar Belly dance Ensemble troupe. She’s also an Afro-Caribbean dancer and performs with the troupe Caribbean Jems. Deeveatva has modeled for up and coming local fashion shows throughout the Inland Empire. Her mission and passion is to encourage all women to grow and re-connect with their inner truth r

eclaiming the Goddess within; and to share, unite, and collectively come together in sisterhood!

This spring Deeveatva will start teaching beginning belly dance classes in the Inland Empire…stay tuned for date, time & location!  Connect with Deeveatva on Facebook.

“What it Do with LUE” Artist Review and Entertainment Happenings

Lue Dowdy

Lue Dowdy

By Lue Dowdy, SAN BERNARDINO, CA— Hi everybody! It’s ya girl, LUE coming at you with this week’s my artist review and entertainment happenings. What an eventful weekend! So many awesome and exciting things took place.

Artist Review: I selected Mack Pepperboy a talented and charismatic Hip-hop performer turning heads all over.  Pepperboy was born in the early 80’s growing up with a love for music, being influenced by such west coast artists as Snoop, Dre, E40 pac and many more. It was in the late 90’s when Pepperboy (Anthony Joseph) caught a glimpse of the movements down south and the Club/Street sounds of Cash Money Records & No Limit Records. He then realized that a combination of west coast and down south living would create a whole different sound. Far from a rookie Pepper boy signed his first management deal in the late 90’s which set the wheels in motion. The release of his first mix tape in 2001 with a group from Shreveport Louisiana helped put him on the radar.

2007’s release of Louisihammer the mix tape pushed him forward and helped gain the ears of the west coast. By the time 2008 came around he dropped another CD called Flame Thowa whchtch had the attention of people coast to coast with the songs Get it Girl & My Swagg all over internet radio. You can catch Pepper boy any were from C.A To L.A doing live shows on a weekly basis in 2009 over50 were logged. It doesn’t look like Pepper boy will stop anytime soon. Pepper boy has shared the stage with numerous artists such as Glassess Malone, the new Boyz, Nipsey Hussle, BWS Menace, WuTang, and the list goes on. Jayavana Rose Herbert

Jayavana Rose Herbert

Artist Review: I’ve been blessed to work with all walks of life when it comes to artists. I’m happy to featu

re in this week’s artist review, Jayavana Rose Herbert an anointed young lady that’s blessed with the gift of dance. I’ve watched this talented teen grow into an amazing dancer for the LORD. The way she’s able to tell a story and deliver a message through dance, is truly a site to behold.

Jayavana Rose Sarai Herbert was born to the parents of Bishop Wallace and Dr. Janice Herbert on July 18, 1995, at St. Bernardine Hospital. She was born premature, 1 lb. 15 oz. Her parents were told she would not be able to live a normal life. She had club feet and a heart murmur. Her parents were informed that she would not be able to walk or do the things that most normal children do, through the faith of her parents, by leaning and depending on God. God supernaturally healed her “for such a time as this” to dance for His Glory in Jesus Name.

Never looking back or caring what her peers thought, Jayavana has managed to keep her focus on her calling. This young lady has performed at several community churches and community events throughout San Bernardino. Be on the lookout for Praise Dancer, Jayavana Rose Herbert, member of Servant Branch Ministries.

Psalms 107:20-21 says: “He sent His Word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destruction. Oh that men would praise the Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men!”

“What it Do with LUE” Artist Review and Entertainment Happenings

Lue Dowdy

Lue Dowdy

By Lue Dowdy – SAN BERNARDINO, CA— Artist Review: Shaye Taylor Esparza, musical sensation. This 18 year old singer/song writer is giving her peers in the music industry a run for their money. I can’t express enough how talented this young lady is. Shaye, was one of the local artists featured last Friday at our Late Night Spotlight event in San Bernardino. She mesmerized the audience with beautiful vocals and piano playing. Her proud parents sat and watched with love and support.  She has BIG dreams and loves the Lord and people. Shaye has it all, beauty, talent, and a willingness to succeed. Believe me when I say, this young lady is going to go far.  Check her out at these links: www.shayetaylor.com; www.Myspace.com/shayedreams; www.facebook.com/shayeandthedreamers; www.myspace.com/shayeandthedreamers; shayetaylor(esparza)(AIM); shayedreams(Twitter); and www.redlandsdailyfacts.com/news/ci_13148494.

Entertainment Happenings: Last week I had the opportunity to see the Wayans Brothers, along with Davis Allan Grier, and Charlie Murphy at San Manuel India Bingo. Wow, what an amazing and funny show! The theater was filled with an eager and diverse crowd ready to LOL.

Marlon_Wayans

Marlon_Wayans

The Wayans Brothers, known for their hilarious stand up and acting skills come from a talented family. Shawn is best known for his DJ skills and Marlon for his acting and modeling. It’s no surprise to me why they’re loved by so many with their good looks and ability to make folks laugh. Both brothers appeared with their siblings on their brother Keenen Ivory Wayans’ hit television show “In Living Color.” Marlon and Shawn also starred in the their own WB sitcom “The Wayans Bros” and in the comedic films Scary Movie, Scary Movie 2, White Chicks, Little Man, and Dance Flick.

David Allan Grier, still got it! He was funny and engaging. Using his skills from his theatrical background, he pulled a young lady up from the audience and serenaded her. Now you can just imagine how gut busting that was.  Mr. Grier has vocals! David was also a contestant on the 8th season of Dancing with the Stars, and is also known for his unforgettable appearances in the  cult films “Amazon Women on the Moon” and “I’m Gonna Git You Sucka,” and for his many skits as part of the ensemble cast of  “In Living Color.”

Shaye Taylor Esparza

Charlie Murphy, how I love this crazy and funny man! I couldn’t stop laughing when he took the stage, until he opened up to the audience about losing his wife two years ago to cancer. He explained the challenges of being a single father and trying to date again. Charlie managed to take his heartache and pain and make it work for him through comedy. I really commend him for that. Charlie achieved fame as a recurring performer on “Chappelle’s Show,” particularly in his True Hollywood Stories sketches, where he recounts his misadventures as part of his brother Eddie’s entourage, including encounters with various celebrities such as Rick James and Prince.

I didn’t know that, Charlie also worked behind the scenes with the hip hop group K-9 Posse, a hip hop duo composed of his step-brother Vernon Lynch, Jr. and Wardell Mahone. The group’s 1988 self-titled debut, Charlie was credited as the album’s executive producer as well as songwriter on the songs “Somebody’s Brother” and “Say Who Say What” in the group’s self-titled debut.

There are so many talented artists and entertainment spots in our city. All I want to do is tell everybody what it DO!
